Kaltenbach Supplied Technology
The ASD metal services, central service centre for General and Structural Steels in Stourton, Leeds, specialises in the supply and processing of an extensive range of section (heavy, light, hollow and cold formed), re-rolled, floor plate and reversing mill plate. The ultra-modern, purpose-built high-tech Leeds site, acts as a central stock holding, distribution and processing centre, for the nationwide chain of ASD metal services divisions. Kaltenbach have installed a comprehensive array of the very latest structural steel processing technology to meet the precise requirements of ASD metal services, which stipulated, “effective workflows, maximising efficiency and ease of control”, making the Leeds processing line one of the most modern and efficient in Europe.

High Levels of Automation
A highly automated, very low manning processing line, that accepts downloaded instructions from the sites production-planning department to all of the process workstations. Each workstation has touch-screen man-machine interfaces throughout. A multi touch-screen central console, which was the first of its type, stands alongside the material input cross-conveyors of the Kaltenbach-Gietart 1530 shot blaster. This central console can monitor the position of all material and its progress throughout the entire line, including active positions on any of its cross-conveyor fields.

A mixture of software controls the line, including Kaltenbach PROFICUT, which interprets and transposes DSTV files to achieve direct, automated downloaded instructions. Specially developed workflow schematics can be screen monitored and bespoke on-screen pop-ups provide additional user-friendly control and reference data.
