A perfect demonstration of the unique cutting speed of the HBM is the latest in a series of Kaltenbach installations
at Metalex, the specialist aluminium and non-ferrous stockholder, with warehouse facilities in Horsham, West Sussex
and Wimborne, Dorset. Just 45 seconds is all it takes to cut a 20" (508mm), 6082T6 aluminium bar.
“The speed of the HBM is simply staggering”, says Paul Nicola, Managing Director, Metalex. “It’s proved the perfect machine to
match our customer service philosophy and ever expanding stock range, enabling a JIT response and satisfying large material
capacity of up to twenty one inches diameter. It also cuts material several hundred percent faster than other same capacity, current
model machines we have”.
Installed at their Horsham site, the HBM540 aluminium saw was the first of its type in the UK. The HBM has a high-efficiency large
capacity swarf management system as standard, that runs the entire underside of the machine and can be simply rolled clear of the
machine for access. Swarf is kept noticeable absent from around the external areas of the saw. The addition of a centrifuge powered
extraction system has further enhanced swarf clearance, taking it directly away from the saws swarf outlet and ducting to a large
hopper to one side of the warehouse.
Metalex are typical of the more forward thinking high-end metal stockists who have recognised that speed of service and highly
accurate cut-to-length reliable material supply is what customers demand and as such, gives them an all-important competitive edge.
Serving the South of England, with their own vehicle fleet, Metalex supply a broad range of precision engineers, both subcontractors
and OEM’s, with non-ferrous, predominantly aluminium, bar and plate and more recently brass and stainless steel.
The neat, ergonomic control console of the HBM enables simply keyed CNC instructions and the machines enclosed design successfully
sound attenuates and contains generated swarf. An automated input gripper feed, measuring system and roller way, combined with an
output roller way, ensure ease of material loading, feed and output.
