Kaltenbach Limited, the Sole UK Agents for Behringer GmbH, billet and plate cutting band saws and a selection of their mitre cutting band saws, has announced that Behringer 'SC' (Speed-Cutting) advanced sawing technology, is now available across the entire range of HBM ultra hi-performance, straight-cutting band saws, as a factory fitted, integrated SC Pack option.
The addition of the SC Pack gives a further circa 30% performance gain, over and above the current HBM existing performance, which is already established as the industries fastest straight-cutting, precision band sawing range. HBM machines using TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) blades to their full capability, can achieve cutting cycle times up to 7 times faster than many band saw industry norms and under continuous production conditions, while maximising blade life and overall machine performance. Bi-metal blades can also be readily used with HBM saws but with an attendant reduction in performance.
The HBM generation of Behringer band saws were formally UK launched in 2002, claiming dramatic gains in straight-cutting band sawing speeds compared to industry norms, with 3 machine material capacities offered of Ø540, 440 and 370mm, with ferrous and non-ferrous options. Continual ongoing development has achieved exponential increases in cutting speed, in parallel with advances in TCT blade technology. The original models reported 2.5 to 3-fold gains in cutting speeds, with the latest 2011 saws now reporting up to a staggering 7-fold advance, even with notoriously slow and difficult to cut metals. All HBM machines have a fully enclosed housing, which serves to attenuate process noise to very low levels and assist in swarf and coolant containment.
UK end-user feed-back, tracks exponential advance in performance.
Kaltenbach Ltd, UK customer feedback since the introduction of the HBM range, tracks and clearly illustrates the steady sawing performance gains during the last 10 years. In 2003, HBM band saws were reporting 60% gains, over industry norms, rapidly cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including very tough alloys. By 2006 the HBM440 ALU, aluminium band saw was giving a 70% gain, on top of the 60% gain already achieved from the earlier generation of HBM saws and cutting Ø160mm alloy in only 13 secs. By 2007, an HBM540 installation reported cutting 508mm (20") 6082T6 aluminium bar in under 45 secs and by early 2011, Ø255mm Titanium 6AL4V is being cut in a mere 15mins.
The efficiency gains, achieved by these saws, especially in the last 3-4 years and particularly for stock holders of the toughest metals is impressive and makes a winning difference in the highly competitive, service-driven stock holding sector. The new SC Pack, HBM option, will now advance these cutting times, even further.
Behringer SC (Speed Cutting) band sawing technology was first introduced in the UK in 2010, with a new top-of-the-range model HBM400 SC, claiming revolutionary cutting performance to give a 7-fold gain in cutting speed, over some conventional band saws. For example, conventional machines typically cut 150mm diameter, 16MnCr5 material, using a bi-metal blade, at an output speed of circa 80 sq.cm/min in around 150 seconds per cut, or with a TCT blade, at a rate of around 130 sq.cm/min. The HBM400 SC makes the same cut at an amazing 500 sq.cm/min per cut, taking a mere 21 seconds. Similar ‘speed-cutting’ advanced features and benefits as proven by the HBM400 SC machine, are now available as the SC Pack option, across the entire HBM range of straight-cutting production band saws, which enable a further circa 30% gain, on top of their existing claim as the industries fastest band saws.
New SC Pack, adds further 30% cutting speed to HBM band saws
The new SC Pack option for the HBM band saw range, is a from new, factory integrated combination of Behringer features, that claim significant additional proven benefits and comprise in part of the following; a pumped, specially filtered flood coolant system, that achieves high penetration coolant, deep into the cutting face, under optimized, recycled clean fluid cutting conditions; IBC (Intelligent Blade Control), a fully integrated blade management and control system that influences cut accuracy, blade life and overall cycle times and incorporates and includes, New Blade Controlled Run-in, Dynamic Cutting, which auto-senses saw blade load and controls blade velocity and down-feed, Saw Band Deflection Monitoring and Material Retraction, which preserves cut face integrity and avoids any potential blade damage. In addition, servo driven ball-screw down-feed technology and frequency controlled drive systems achieve smooth, infinitely variable cutting speeds and advanced swarf conveyor options, greatly impact on overall cutting performance and blade life. The circa 30% gain in cutting performance offered by HBM saws with the new SC Pack, also enables the full range of HBM saw bands to be used, depending on the material being cut and the production demands. TCT blades work best when worked hard. Under such hard-worked, extreme operating conditions, every detail of the band saws functioning is critical to the cutting performance, which is why Behringer have developed, refined and proven their technology to operate under such extremes, reliably and under continuous production conditions.
