KBS750/KDE603 saw/drill system at Cook Fabrications

One of the new generation of Kaltenbach bandsawing and drilling close-coupled CNC systems, a KBS750/KDE603, has transformed the production through-put at Cook Fabrications Ltd, Folkestone

The KBS750 is a double mitre cutting, semi-auto CNC bandsaw, with a material capacity of 750mm x 500mm (at 90º). The close-coupled CNC linked KDE603, 3 axis drill has one vertical drill spindle and two horizontally apposed, to produce hole patterns from 6 to 30 mm. Control is from a user-friendly, centrally positioned consol, between saw and drill, with a clear, simple to read touch-screen. A very useful CNC hard stamper for adding identification codings to cut material is incorporated into the line. A17M long motorised conveyor with a CNC ‘push-feed’ measurement system, feeds the input side of the drill and stretches from well into Cooks external stockyard. Material is conveyed from the yard through a purpose designed window in the buildings sidewall and on into the drills jaws with rollerway continuing into the KBS saw. The saw has a magic-eye, laser beam length measurement datum within its jaws. From the output side of the saw there is a 12M long motorised roller conveyor. Cook have since also ordered a T13 motorised crossfeed system to further maximise handling efficiency, which will be retro-integrated into the saws output handling system.

“An added major advantage the Kaltenbach system has given us”, says Eric Cook, “ Is a JIT (Just-In-Time) response. Our customers tend to order late and need delivery early, so our new set-up greatly assists customer service”.
